Construction of a confidence interval for process capability index C PM is often based on a normal approximation with fixed sample size. In this article, we describe a different approach in constructing a fixed-width confidence interval for process capability index C PM with a preassigned accuracy by using a combination of bootstrap and sequential sampling schemes. The optimal sample size required to achieve a preassigned confidence level is obtained using both two-stage and modified two-stage sequential procedures. The procedure developed is also validated using an extensive simulation study.

Estimating process capability indices using ridge regression
Process capability indices show the ability of a process to produce products according to the pre-specified requirements. Since final quality characteristics of a product are usually interrelated to its previous amounts in earlier workstations, one need to model and consider the relationship among them to assess the process ca-pability properly. Hence, conducting process capability analysis in ...
متن کاملDevelopment of Confidence Interval and Hypothesis Testing for Taguchi Capability Index Using a Bayesian Approach
Process capability indices are designed to describe how the process of interest can achieve to meet specification limits under a condition of statistical control. One of the capability indices is denoted as Cpm proposed by Chan, Cheng and Spiring (1988), sometimes termed the Taguchi index. The primary goal of this paper attempts to construct a confidence interval for Cpm, which measures proces...
متن کاملFuzzy inference to assess manufacturing process capability with imprecise data
Process capability indices provide numerical measures on whether a process conforms to the defined manufacturing capability prerequisite. These have been successfully applied by companies to compete with and to lead high-profit markets by evaluating the quality and productivity performance. The loss-based process capability index Cpm, sometimes called the Taguchi index, was proposed to measure ...
متن کاملBootstrap confidence intervals of CNpk for type‑II generalized log‑logistic distribution
This paper deals with construction of confidence intervals for process capability index using bootstrap method (proposed by Chen and Pearn in Qual Reliab Eng Int 13(6):355–360, 1997) by applying simulation technique. It is assumed that the quality characteristic follows type-II generalized log-logistic distribution introduced by Rosaiah et al. in Int J Agric Stat Sci 4(2):283–292, (2008). Discu...
متن کاملA Capability Index Calibrated to the Nonconformance Probability
Process Capability indices have become popular for describing how well a process meets specified tolerances. The lack of affinity with the process nonconformance probability p and the difficulty of dealing with the sampling distribution of their natural estimators affect greatly the use of the traditional indices as Cp, Cpk, Cpm and Cpkm. In this paper, a capability index is proposed which is c...
